Drivers going through Lido Beach should expect continued delays due to a sewer line break in the middle of a busy intersection. The break occurred at the intersection of Lido Boulevard and Blackheath Road.
Richard Henry, who commutes through the intersection daily, said Wednesday morning’s drive was far worse than usual.
“This morning was bad, this morning was really bad. It probably cost me half an hour,” Henry said. “There was no warning. This morning kind of blew up and everyone was late. I think it kind of surprised everyone."
Conditions had improved by Wednesday afternoon. Flaggers were stationed on both sides of the road, directing vehicles through the work zone. Traffic was still slow but moving more steadily.
“I got through pretty quick. I was backed up maybe a block or two,” Henry added.
Veolia Water said crews initially began working on the repair on Saturday but were forced to pause on Sunday due to the snowstorm. Work resumed on Tuesday.
“We don't have an exact timetable. We are hoping to do this as quickly as possible and get out of the way to free up traffic for everyone, as soon as we can,” said Lauren Sternberg, communications manager for Veolia.
Officials said crews are working around the clock to complete the repairs. No customers in the surrounding area are expected to experience service disruptions. Drivers are advised to plan for delays and allow extra travel time when passing through the area until the work is finished.
