St. Joseph’s University has been awarded a grant to buy state-of-the-art nursing equipment for both of its New York campuses.
The $160,000 from the George I. Alden Trust will go to the purchase of 3D Anatomage tables for the school’s Brooklyn and Patchogue locations.
This crucial learning tool uses the latest in immersive technology to simulate the entire human body and all its functions, according to the university.
The tables can replicate heart attacks and aneurysms, among other medical emergencies, and are also able to perform CT scans.
“This innovative technology allows students to interact with three-dimensional anatomical models, visualize complex structures and processes, and explore the human body in an immersive and meaningful way,” said Athanasia Giannakas-Lafaro, DNP, AGNP-C, RN, OCN, executive director of nursing at SJNY.
The 3D cadavers available for analysis include male, female, geriatric and pregnant models. All of which are rendered from real bodies that were donated for research, school officials say.
“We are so grateful to the George I. Alden Trust for enabling us to bring a new level of state-of-the-art equipment to our nursing students,” said Rory Shaffer-Walsh, vice president for institutional advancement.
