Suffolk County police will step up patrols outside W.S. Mount Elementary School in Stony Brook after an "alleged threat was made against Mount Elementary School and individuals who attend the school by another individual."
So far, the Three Village School District has not disclosed who made the threat, the exact nature of the threat or when it first learned about it.
"We have been working closely with the Suffolk County Police Department and Stony Brook University Police," the district wrote in a brief statement on its social media pages around 10:30 Sunday night. "Due to the ongoing investigation, we cannot provide any additional details at this time."
News 12 reached out to the district early this morning for additional information.
Suffolk County police would only say the department is investigating the incident and working with the school district to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Several parents have reached out to News 12 to express their concerns about the situation and said they were scared to send their kids to school today.
The school is expected to start on time today, according to the district.
