Nassau Police have released the name of the individual responsible for stabbing two people in two different Nassau communities.
Authorities say Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22, allegedly stabbed two women to death on Friday.
Police responded to a Wendy’s restaurant on Austin Boulevard in Island Park just after midnight, where Alvarenga Rivera allegedly stabbed and killed a 42-year-old woman, who was his coworker, as she was taking out the garbage.
Investigators stated that Alvarenga Rivera then called the police and told them he had stabbed someone.
"While we were at the scene, we received information that an individual was stopped at 169 Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook," said Det. Lt. George Darienzo. "He asked to see police and when police arrived, he said he killed somebody that night."
Alvarenga was then arrested outside a 7-Eleven in Lynbrook.
The second deadly stabbing allegedly took place on Mineola Avenue in Valley Stream a few hours later, according to police.
They say the 32-year-old woman had stab wounds to the neck and torso, similar to the injuries of the 42-year-old victim. Investigators say Alvarenga and the woman lived together.
"They rent bedrooms at the location and there are general spaces throughout the house they share. Living Room, Kitchen, bathroom," said Det. Lt. George Darienzo. "So they cohabitate, acquaintances of one another. I'm not aware of a specific domestic relationship between the two."
Police say Alvarenga came into the United States illegally in 2016 when he was 12 years old. He is currently facing multiple murder charges and has pleaded not guilty.
