Alexandra Swayne, from Wantagh, is turning a difficult moment in her life into a product that now helps babies and their parents.

She launched her business, Binkibands, last month and has customers from all over the country.

The idea sparked during her first pregnancy.

"I came up with this idea. It was just a lightbulb that went off," said Swayne.

Years later, after her second child was born, the idea to invent a new type of baby binky became a reality.

"At one point, I realized he wasn't actually hungry; he just wanted to be soothed," said Swayne.

The path was not easy for Alexandra.

Alexandra was laid off during her first pregnancy.

It happened during the time she and her husband bought their Wantagh home.

"I feel like every challenging time I have been in it has brought about a fun and exciting chapter afterwards," said Swayne.

With no manufacturing experience, she taught herself to build the product

After working and speaking with several engineers, last month, Binkibands launched. Alexandra posted her story about creating this business on LinkedIn, and it went viral. "It gave me the confidence I needed, truthfully," said Alexandra.
