A water main break in Amityville is causing traffic disruptions along Route 110 and Sunrise Highway, while also leaving several businesses without water service.

Southbound Route 110 near Sunrise Highway is closed as crews worked to repair the break, which appears to be located south of Sunrise Highway.

Work crews have been on scene since late Monday night, digging in the southbound lanes to reach the damaged main.

The closure is forcing southbound traffic on Route 110 to divert onto Sunrise Highway. The entrance ramp from Sunrise Highway to southbound Route 110 is also closed.

According to the Suffolk County Water Authority, several businesses in the area are without water as repairs continue.

Thomas Smith, owner of Crossroads Power Equipment on Route 110, said he discovered the problem when he arrived to open his business Tuesday morning.

“I came here at 8 o’clock and I ran into the traffic because I usually open the business at 8. And then I discovered that there is no water in the house,” Smith said.

The Suffolk County Water Authority said the southbound lanes of Route 110 are expected to remain closed into the afternoon while crews work to repair the water main and restore service.
