The Village of Patchogue declared a state of emergency Sunday morning after getting a total of 7 inches of snow.
Mayor Paul Pontieri urged residents to stay inside if they could and park cars in driveways to allow plows to clear away snow.
Although there were piles of snow on the sides of the roads and some slush and ice on the sidewalks, the roads in downtown Patchogue were clear by early Sunday evening.
Pontieri said by declaring a state of emergency, the village can get the funding necessary to pay for cleanup through the state. He added that he wants to do everything he can to keep the people of Patchogue safe.
