Close to 100 volunteers gathered outside the Atlantic Beach Village Hall to take part in a massive search for Petros Krommidas.
The 2013 Chaminade High School graduate and Democratic candidate vying to become legislator in Nassau County’s 4th District went missing last month.
"We have ATVs on the beach, drones and helicopters in the air and countless volunteers searching for him," said Nassau County Executive, Bruce Blakemen.
On Wednesday, April 23, Petey parked his car by the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, New York. He locked his car, took a towel, and around 10:30 PM walked onto the beach to exercise, just as he had done many times before. He has always been in great shape and has many future plans including participating in a triathlon. He was not a stranger to cold water training. His family reported him missing the next day, as it is completely out of character for him not to respond.
Nassau police say Krommidas’ vehicle was found at the Allegria Hotel and that his belongings were found on the beach. Police described Krommidas as 6 feet 2 inches, 230 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. According to officials, he was last seen wearing a camouflage print sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.
"We are out here to help bring the family closure," said volunteer Leah Russo of Bethpage.
Officials are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Nassau County Missing Persons Squad at 516-573-7717.
