A neighborhood staple in Massapequa Park is preparing to shut its doors.

J&R Discount on Park Boulevard will close on Jan. 31, according to Danny Joscher, a manager at the store.

Joscher said the business was informed earlier this month that its lease will not be renewed when it expires early next year.

The business has been a fixture in Massapequa Park for 52 years. There is another store in Levittown, but Joscher said he wasn't sure if it can survive without the flagship Massapequa Park store to support it.
