News 12 has learned that Sunrise Mall is in contract with Amazon with one of the parcels of land on its property, according to an attorney.
There are no confirmed plans what Amazon will do with the parcel. Demolition of the mall is not imminent.
The future of the property at Sunrise Mall was up for discussion on Thursday by the Town of Oyster Bay. An Oyster Bay Town spokesperson had told News 12 the struggling mall's owners want to knock it down.
The owners purchased the property in 2020 and stopped renewing tenants’ leases in 2022. They want to turn the property into four sub-lots. Nassau County's Planning Commission must approve those plans.
“The owner has assured residents that the Sunrise Mall property will continue to be used for retail and warehouse purposes,” the spokesperson said.
