Three people, including two young children, were injured after an out-of-control pickup truck struck five parked vehicles Thursday evening at Robert Moses State Park, according to New York State Park Police.

The crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the parking lot at Field 2, where beachgoers were returning to their vehicles after a day at the beach.

Police said a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Lorenzo Atrigliano of Lake Grove crashed into multiple parked vehicles and struck a father and his two sons, ages 2 and 5.

Authorities said Atrigliano told investigators that the truck's brakes became stuck. He was arrested and charged with several offenses, including reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

The father and both children were transported to a hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators credited the father's quick actions with preventing more serious injuries.

"The 2-year-old we thought could have been a lot more serious, but the father was heroic enough to get his 2-year-old out of harm's way at a second's notice," said Major Anthony Astacio of the New York State Park Police.

Police said the pickup truck was impounded for an inspection, and investigators interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene.

Atrigliano is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 21
