An Amazon delivery truck caught fire and spread to a Stop & Shop Friday afternoon in West Babylon.
Authorities say it happened around 1:40 p.m. inside a parking lot on Route 109.
The vehicle erupted in flames after experiencing a mechanical issue, according to Amazon officials.
West Babylon Fire Chief William Allen says that they had to use the hydrant in front of the nearby West Babylon Post Office to fight the fire because the indoor hydrant at the Stop & Shop did not work.
Over 100 people were evacuated from the store, according to Allen, and no injuries were reported.
In a statement to News 12, Stop & Shop said it apologizes to customers for the inconvenience and is working to reopen the store as soon as possible. The West Babylon store will reopen at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
