Three years after beginning their journey, and months after suffering a major theft, East Coast Street Tacos in Carle Place officially opened its doors Saturday to a packed house.
Earlier this year their plans to open took a major hit when $60,000 worth of equipment, including kitchen appliances and tables, was stolen. The items were
allegedly taken by the former tenant, Mohamed Asaeedi. He was charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property in February.
“My partners and I found the equipment in some other businesses down in Wantagh and we confiscated it back seven months ago,” said co-founder Ruben Angarita.
With the ordeal behind them, the owners are focused on serving what they call a Latin fusion menu, blending flavors from Central and South America. Guests can expect items like tacos, empanadas and street corn – offering a fresh addition to the Carle Place food scene.
“People are loving it,” Angarita said. “They’re saying it’s different from what’s around here, and they’re happy we’re here.”
East Coast Street Tacos is now officially open at 347 Old Country Road.
