A retired NYPD chief died Friday night after being found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool at his Stony Brook home, Suffolk County police said.

A family member called 911 around 7:45 p.m. after finding 75-year-old Anthony Izzo unresponsive in the water, according to police.

Officers and members of the Stony Brook Fire Department responded to the home on Malverne Lane and pulled Izzo from the pool.

They performed CPR before he was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where medical officials pronounced him dead.

Izzo previously served as chief of the NYPD's Organized Crime Control Bureau and spent decades with the department.

In a statement posted on social media, the NYPD mourned his passing.

"We mourn the passing of former Chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau, Anthony Izzo. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the NYPD members who have served with him. His decades-long legacy will continue to inspire the Finest for generations."

The NYPD Columbia Association also paid tribute to Izzo, remembering him as a dedicated supporter of the organization and a respected member of the department.

"Chief Izzo was more than a distinguished member of the NYPD," the statement read. "He was a Lifetime Member of the Columbia Association, a former Man of the Year honoree, and a longtime supporter and friend of our Association... Rest in Peace, Chief. Your service and legacy will never be forgotten."
